FOR PEOPLE LIVING WITH DIABETES

Our Emergency Medical Assistance Program provides short-term relief to individuals with diabetes who have found themselves in a crisis situation and are unable to afford their life-sustaining medications and supplies. The NDA can help provide one month of lifesaving insulin, diabetes medications, and other diabetes management supplies at no cost to the individual, so daily diabetes self-management can continue without interruption.

This program prevents individuals from the dangerous implications of rationing insulin or completely stopping their daily management due to a financial crisis. It also eliminates the need for individuals to seek extremely costly treatment at local hospital emergency rooms to receive a dose of insulin.

Program Eligibility Requirements

Type 1, Type 2, or Gestational diabetes.

Valid NV residency.

Active diabetes medication or supply prescriptions.

How often can I request assistance?

The Emergency Medical Assistance Program is available to assist with one month’s worth of supplies or medications each year.

What if my prescription is expired and no longer valid?

Reach out to your diabetes management team for an updated prescription first, then give us a call.

Do I pick up my medication at the Nevada Diabetes Association Office?

No, the NDA partners with local pharmacies throughout the state. The pick up process is the same as going through your favorite pharmacy or Durable Medical Equipment (DME) distributor.

What if I live in rural Nevada?

Call us! Most local pharmacies will work with our program to help get you the medications and supplies you need.

How quickly does the NDA respond to requests?

Our team prioritizes emergency medical requests and will do our best to get back to you within 24-48 hours.

How fast can the NDA get me my prescriptions?

The NDA operates our program through local pharmacies and durable medical equipment companies. This means that prescription refill times may vary based on the current stock and availability of your requested medications.

Does the NDA run a clinic or write prescriptions for my diabetes medications?

No, the NDA is not a clinic and does not have medical providers available. We can, however, provide a resource list to help guide you.

Does EMAP offer support beyond emergency supplies?

Yes. Emergency assistance may be why you first connect with EMAP, but our support doesn’t stop there. We can help connect you with community resources, referrals, diabetes education, support groups, and other NDA programs—helping you find the resources and ongoing support you need beyond the immediate crisis.
